Well... We're off "On The Great Open Road!" At least the first 10 miles of it :) Julie and I purposely chose a park site close to the house for the first few nights away. We are sure that we will have forgotten something or need to bring something back to the house before heading out. Guajome Lake is San Diego County Park campsite located in Oceanside Ca. The park has 30ish full hook ups and is a picturesque landscape of water, nature and trails. It's an amazing place to stay and camp and its right in our backyard. A few observations from the first day. I now have the most amazing office in the world! At home, my office had the same view everyday. In Coach Addy, the office view is out the huge front windshield and is ever changing. Each new place bringing the office new scenery to spur the creative writing juices. It's goosebump amazing and was unexpected. There is privacy shade that I can drop with a button if desired. All the same tech and comforts that I used at home are in Coach Addy, and the chair is more comfortable!
We welcomed our first guests onboard last night! Jeff and Kelly joined us last night for appetizers and a glass of wine, then we headed out to a nice fish restaurant for dinner. Coach Addy was super comfortable and enjoyable, a real living room to entertain in. We look forward to sharing with many folks wonderful days hearing their stories, on board as we travel around our country.
At our home in Carlsbad, on the hearth of our fireplace we have a set of wooden blocks that we spell out the occasion or welcome guest to the house. We decided to take these blocks on the road and we are very glad that we did. The blocks now sit on the electronic fireplace mantel and brings a piece of home to the road and keeps a rich tradition alive. We have two footstools for the couch and the blocks when stowed, fit in the lower half of one of the footstools.
I can imagine the imagery that enters a persons thoughts when they hear "motorhome across the country for the year." Well, erase those thoughts of the cramped and uncomfortable motorhomes of yesteryear. Julie and I feel as if we are in a luxury small condo that just happens to move across the country from place to place. The design and functionality of Coach Addy, from bedroom to bathroom, from living room to kitchen is incredible really.
OK, We're in the honeymoon phase I know, issues and problems are sure to await us down the road and we'll deal with them as they arise....sort of like the problems of a house and a car at home, but for today, we celebrate the moment and the adventures ahead...On The Great Open Road.
Roughing it Smoothly. Peder
